Since joining the family domaine with the 2020 vintage, fourth-generation winemaker Nicolas Weber has brought a thoughtful, progressive approach to both vineyard and cellar. A graduate in viticulture and oenology, Nicolas favours gentle pruning, herbicide-free farming and minimal intervention, allowing the character of each vineyard to lead. His wines are predominantly spontaneously fermented and given time to develop naturally, combining traditional Saar precision with a quietly experimental streak. The wines are beautifully precise and expressive, with a striking sense of place: cool Saar freshness, mineral tension and purity, each cuvée reflecting the distinctive slate or limestone soils from which it comes.

The Elbling is more than 2000 years old and is one of the oldest cultivated white wine wines in Europe. For a very long time, the Elbling was the most common grape variety in Germany. Then, from the 17th Century, cultivation declined more and more. Today, the white grape variety can be found almost only on the Obermosel and grows on limestone soils.

32 months of lees aging gives this wine a toasted brioche undertone that ties the notes of apple, peach, and citrus together and harmonises beautifully with the naturally vibrant acidity of Elbling.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0087/7759/6994/files/margarethenhof-cremant-elbling-brut.jpg?v=1791363853
