A skill he learned while winemaking in Bordeaux, Luc takes the art of creating a botrytised dessert wine extremely seriously. After searching across California for the right spot, he eventually found the perfect place in the gravelly soil of an ancient riverbed in the beautiful Alexander Valley. Here, the old vines benefit from hot afternoons and cool, foggy mornings, ideal conditions for the development of Noble Rot.
Extremely small yields in the Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat vineyards lead to intensely concentrated fruit. The resulting wine, a love note or Billet Doux, has an intense bouquet of dried apricot, pêche de vigne, and yellow plum, intermixed with notes of quince, honey, and a hint of sweet vanilla. Full-bodied, the palate is rich and opulent with a creamy, sweet texture leading to a very long, smooth finish. Wonderful in its youth, this wine will continue to age and develop almost indefinitely.
