While Alexana Estate is now focused on its exceptional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling, a few years ago head winemaker Brian Weil crafted a special series of wines using grapes sourced from the Columbia Valley in Washington. Lonesome Spring Ranch, located where the Columbia Valley meets desert and mountain landscapes, offers a fascinating terroir — and the results are nothing short of excellent.
The 2017 Gran Rouge Red Wine is a Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre blend, delivering expressive notes of smoky pepper, ripe raspberry, and grilled herbs, finishing with medium-grained tannins after eighteen months in oak. Because Alexana now concentrates on its core varietals, these GSM wines remained quietly in the cellar following bottling, allowing them to age beautifully.
Now perfectly matured, this wine is ready to enjoy immediately, though it will happily continue to develop in the cellar for several more years if you prefer.
