The 2019 High Contrast Syrah comes from the extraordinary Hors Catégorie Vineyard, planted on a steep, rocky slope where the North Fork of the Walla Walla River converges with the Walla Walla River beneath the Blue Mountains. One of America’s most dramatic vineyard sites, its Syrah vines cling to fractured basalt, their roots forced to search deep into the rocky hillside for nourishment.
This extreme terroir gives the wine its distinctive character, combining intensity and concentration with remarkable freshness and precision. The palate is rich and deeply textured, with layers of dark berry fruit, savoury spice and mineral complexity, supported by firm, finely grained tannins.
There is a striking sense of energy throughout, with the rugged character of the vineyard lending the wine depth and structure while retaining elegance.
