Description
The 2020 Book XVII is the culmination of more than two decades of exhaustive study of the Polkadraai Hills, with De Toren meticulously recording everything from soil composition and weather patterns to the influence of the surrounding ocean. This intimate understanding of the vineyard, combined with modern viticulture, experimental winemaking and masterful use of Bordeaux barriques, has established Book XVII as one of the Cape’s most distinctive Bordeaux blends.
Unashamedly luxurious, ripe and hedonistic, the wine is defined by its richness and depth, with layers of dark fruit, spice and beautifully integrated oak. Yet beneath its generosity lies a finely judged structure, giving the wine both balance and remarkable persistence.
Book XVII has never sought to imitate another Cape wine. Instead, its individuality has become its greatest strength, developing a devoted following in South Africa and internationally.
A bold and compelling expression of the Polkadraai Hills, Book XVII represents De Toren’s relentless pursuit of something truly distinctive.
