Description
The Alexana Estate Pinot Noir expresses the vineyard’s remarkably diverse terroir, with twelve clones planted across eighteen distinct soil types. Elevations range from 320 to 650 feet, spanning rolling hills, steep slopes, and rugged terrain that create a patchwork of microclimates across the eighty-acre estate. Wines from each of the estate’s Pinot Noir blocks are blended together to create this cuvée, which shows aromas of pine duff, açaí, blueberry, and spun sugar, with black cherry fruit on the palate supported by firm tannins and a dusty finish.
Alexana was founded in 2005 by Dr. Madaiah Revana. His goal was to make great wine — but unlike his Napa estate, where the focus is on Cabernet Sauvignon, here he set out to produce cool-climate wines capable of rivaling the great Pinots of Burgundy. Alexana occupies a unique site in Oregon’s Dundee Hills AVA, where volcanic and marine sedimentary soils meet. Its position on the back side of the hills ensures long hours of gentle Oregon sunshine, tempered by unobstructed, cooling Pacific breezes.
