Description
Named after the imposing serpentine rock that dominates the landscape, these wines are some of the best values we’ve discovered in recent years.
Founded by Italian settlers in the 1880s, the vineyard evokes the charm of Tuscany or Piemonte. You can sense it in the air, see it in the trees planted throughout the property, and smell it in the rosemary that grows around the vines. A true slice of heaven, it lies miles up a dirt track in the northern reaches of Alexander Valley.
Owner Kenny Kahn, with over thirty-five years of experience, has seamlessly blended Old World techniques with a renewed focus on Californian terroir and his love of French wines. The result is a captivating, fusion style that is just as enjoyable in its youth as it will be with time in the cellar.
The 2019 Baby Blue Red opens with polished aromas of blackberry, dark currant, pencil shavings, peppercorn, cedar, and vanilla bean — an immediate sign of its promise as a young wine. Rich flavours follow, combining black and red fruits with savoury spices, hints of black tea and espresso, and just the right touch of toasty oak in the background. A wine that is as vibrant as it is complex.
