Description
The first thing to know about Michael David is that the brothers have a sense of humour. The second is that they’ve never let that get in the way of enjoying a good glass of wine — and who could ask for more? These are fun wines, and it’s a pleasure to have them in the portfolio.
The Phillips family have been farming in Lodi since the 1860s, with the current generation now the fifth to grow grapes. Today, they produce a wide range of wines under numerous labels. We originally selected only the Freakshow and Lodi wines, but were soon tempted into stocking many of the others as well. Big, powerful styles with generous fruit, soft silky layers, and long finishes — they’re easy to love and built to please.
Behind the fun, the brothers have a deep respect for their environment, having helped write the Lodi Rules sustainability guidelines and ensuring all their wines adhere to them.
Winemaker’s Notes:
“Known for giving a platform to grapes that are often underappreciated and typically used as blending varietals, the newest addition to our Inkblot family is none other than Petite Sirah. A favourite among our winemakers, Petite Sirah appears in many of our wines for its concentration and colour, but as a standalone varietal it is seriously impressive. Give it a try and we think you’ll agree that Petite Sirah is a natural fit for a brand that celebrates bold, inky, teeth-staining wines.
Dark and inky in the glass, the 2021 Inkblot Petite Sirah overflows with aromas of boysenberry jam, plum, and molasses. Full-bodied and unapologetically bold, flavours of plum, liquorice, and black pepper dominate the palate, with hints of dark fruit and oak carrying through a long, pleasurable finish.”
