Description
Rodney Strong have been growing Merlot since the early 1970s, when Rod Strong first planted it in Geyserville, the heart of Alexander Valley. Today they continue to farm Merlot in three estate vineyards in Alexander Valley, where it grows into grapes that display the deep dark fruit flavours and mature tannins typical of a warmer American Viticultural Area.
2022 started off dry and mild, with temperatures rising in the summer but staying consistent without any major heat spikes. Evenings stayed cool, so whilst the fruit ripened faster than previous vintages the acidity remained at an ideal level. Harvest was slightly earlier than previous vintages and took place between September 8th and 13th.
Expect notes of black cherry, boysenberry compote, and cassis alongside some toasty spices.
