Description
Trestle Thirty One’s 2022 Cabernet Franc is a beautifully concentrated expression of the Finger Lakes, showing how well the region’s long growing season can suit this naturally aromatic variety. The fruit comes from Simmons Vineyard and benefited from the unusually long, dry autumn of 2022, allowing the Cabernet Franc to reach full ripeness while retaining the bright acidity that is such a hallmark of the Finger Lakes.
The nose combines ripe red and dark berry fruit with violets, fresh herbs and a subtle savoury edge. On the palate, there is plenty of concentration, with blackberry, red plum and black cherry alongside leafy, peppery notes and a touch of spice. The acidity keeps everything fresh and focused, while fine-grained tannins give the wine a satisfying structure without making it feel heavy.
After a spontaneous fermentation and extended time on the skins, the wine spent 18 months in French oak, including two new barrels. This adds gentle toast and spice while allowing the character of the fruit to remain firmly at the forefront. Dry, vibrant and confidently structured, this is a distinctive Cabernet Franc with both immediate appeal and the substance to develop further in bottle.
