Founded by Italian settlers in the 1880s, the vineyard exudes the charm of Tuscany or Piemonte. You can feel it in the air, see it in the trees they planted, and even smell it in the rosemary that grows wild around the vines. A true hidden gem in the northern reaches of Alexander Valley.
Kenny Kahn entered the wine industry, discovered the vineyard, and fell in love. He has preserved its Italianate character while introducing a modern approach, planting a blend of French grape varieties that merge beautifully with the Californian terroir. The result is wines that age gracefully yet shine in their youth.
A few years ago, Kenny expanded south of the main vineyard after acquiring a stunning parcel in the Petaluma Gap, where cool coastal winds funnel through a gap in the hills. Here, he planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, embracing the combination of warm sunshine and cooling Pacific breezes that bring bright acidity and complex flavours. Made in a light, fresh style, these wines are effortlessly drinkable — perfect companions for a summer’s day.
The 2023 Chardonnay shows a pale yellow hue, with aromas of baked apple, chalk, brioche, and limestone, all lifted by a refreshing salinity. On the palate, vibrant flavours of yellow apple, lemon-lime, and a hint of apricot are complemented by touches of custard and nutmeg, a subtle nod to its Californian roots.
This wine shines all summer long, pairing beautifully with food while remaining wonderfully refreshing on its own — pop a bottle in the ice bucket and enjoy.
