Description
Rocks and Flowers is a beautifully elegant expression of California’s Rhône-inspired winemaking, combining Grenache and Carignan at its heart with Syrah and Mourvèdre to create a wine that is as much about finesse as it is about generosity. The fruit comes from the MAHA Estate, high on the hillsides of Paso Robles, where the combination of elevation, rocky soils and warm days helps produce wines with remarkable concentration while retaining freshness.
The 2023 vintage is wonderfully expressive, opening with aromas of red and black raspberry alongside Provençal garrigue, pepper and sandalwood. There is a lovely savoury quality beneath the fruit, giving the wine a sense of complexity without ever becoming heavy. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with pure, vibrant fruit, polished tannins and beautifully integrated acidity. French oak, used sparingly, adds subtle texture and spice while allowing the character of the vineyard and blend to remain at the forefront.
There is an effortless quality to the wine, combining the warmth and generosity of California with the freshness and savoury character associated with the Southern Rhône. Already delicious, it has the balance and structure to develop beautifully over the next decade.
